About the Hutchie's Shrimp Salmon Atlantic Fly
A brilliant salmon-fly designed for power and visibility, the Hutchie's Shrimp is Jim Hutchinson's answer for those edge-of-season currents and flood-washed runs when salmon are pushed and reacting.
Built on a treble hook, this version delivers extra hooking potential, ideal for aggressive Atlantic salmon when they rise hard.
It excels in summer flood water and at the back end of the season, when water levels fall or stain out, giving this pattern the chance to shine through turbulence.
Born from the River Tay tradition, this fly carries the pedigree of classic Scottish salmon patterns through its materials and silhouette.
Fishing Tips:
Best used: During high, coloured water flows when visibility is reduced but salmon are moving, or when low water at season's end demands attractors strong enough to provoke takes.
Presentation: Swing or strip-swing through runs, especially near banks or under overhangs, letting the flow do its work. The treble's multiple points help secure hookups even with fast, erratic strikes.
Line/Leader Setup: Heavier tippets or stout leaders help with control and hook-holding, especially in swollen rivers.
