About the Retro Buzzer Trout Fly
The Retro Buzzer is a seriously attractive stillwater buzzer that trout can find irresistible at times. Designed as a versatile chironomid pupa imitation, it can be fished with confidence at all depths and throughout the season, though it’s generally regarded as being at its best from early season through to mid-summer.
What gives the Retro Buzzer its edge is the combination of a slim black body with a flat pearl tinsel rib for subtle flash, plus hot orange goose biot wing cases at the thorax for a punchy trigger point. Finished with a varnish/superglue coating, it forms a smooth, durable profile that sinks cleanly and looks spot-on as it hangs or drifts in the water.
Fishing Tips:
- Fish it on a floating line with a long leader and let it drift and hang—many buzzer takes come when the fly is doing very little.
- Use a slow figure-of-eight to keep it moving naturally.
- When fish are deeper, count it down on an intermediate and retrieve slowly to keep it in the feeding lane.
A cracking "confidence buzzer", the Retro Buzzer earns its place whenever you want a clean pupa profile with just the right mix of subtle flash and a hot trigger point.
